The Kansas Department of Agriculture will host the 12th annual Kansas Grape Stomp on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. on the Lake Talbott Stage at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health (KDA–DAH) received confirmation from the National Veterinary Services Laboratory on Aug. 29 that two horses were confirmed positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA).
  • Kansas Steps Up to Help Texas Relief Efforts

    The hurricane and subsequent flooding in Texas this week has prompted Kansas to take action to assist and expedite disaster recovery efforts. On Aug. 30, Governor Sam Brownback signed an executive order to lift regulations on motor carriers traveling from and through Kansas en route to aid in recovery from widespread damage left by Hurricane Harvey.
  • State Animal Health Officials Monitor Equine Infectious Anemia in Southwest Kansas

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health (KDA–DAH) is continuing to monitor a facility in Finney County where six horses tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) last week. The facility is under quarantine and the remaining horses at the facility will be observed and retested in 60 days.
  • Students Awarded Kansas Agriculture Skills & Competencies Certificates

    Twenty-four students from four schools in Kansas have been awarded the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Kansas Agriculture Skills & Competencies Certificate. Of these, 20 were awarded the general certificate, three were awarded the animal science certificate, and one student was awarded the plant systems certificate.

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health (KDA–DAH) was notified in August by the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory that a horse in Finney County has tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA).
  • West Nile Virus Confirmed in Kansas Horse

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health (KDA–DAH) was notified in August by the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory that a horse in Reno County has tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The horse was euthanized due to the severity of the illness. This is the first reported equine case of WNV in Kansas in 2017. Horse owners are encouraged to vaccinate their horses to prevent the spread of WNV.
  • JumpStart Funding Awarded to Agriculture Entities

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture partnered with the Kansas Department of Commerce to award funds to Kansas entrepreneurs to encourage innovation and entrepreneurial spirit within the agriculture industry. These funds are made available this summer by the JumpStart Kansas Entrepreneur program.
