    In February 2018, the Kansas Department of Agriculture hosted a trade mission to Russia, to spur trade opportunities through strategic visits throughout the agricultural sector. The trade mission was coordinated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Trade Office (USDA ATO) in Russia.
  • National Weights and Measures Week is March 1-7

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s weights and measures program announces Weights and Measures Week, held every year from March 1-7 to commemorate President John Adams’ signing of the first U.S. weights and measures law on March 2, 1799.
  • Water Use Reports Due March 1

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Water Resources reminds water right owners throughout the state that the deadline for filing water use reports is March 1. To aid in the reporting process, reports can now be filed online. K.S.A. 82a-732 requires the owner of a water right or permit to file a complete and accurate water use report.
  • Appeal Period Now Open for Proposed Floodplain Map for Cow Creek Watershed

    A proposed Flood Insurance Rate Map update for the Cow Creek watershed was released for public review in late 2016. Before the new map is finalized, property owners and lessees will have one more opportunity to provide engineering data through their community during the official 90-day appeal process.
  • Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Permanent Quarantine

    A public hearing will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, to consider the issuance of a permanent quarantine regarding Emerald Ash Borer to include Shawnee County. The hearing will be held in room 124 on the first floor of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, 1320 Research Park Dr. in Manhattan, Kansas.
  • KDA Hosts Multi-State Partnership for Security in Agriculture

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture hosted a planning seminar for the Multi-State Partnership for Security in Agriculture the week of Feb. 5–9. Representatives from 16 states gathered in the Manhattan KDA building to work on strategies to improve the nation’s readiness to respond to emergencies and disasters affecting the agriculture community.
  • KDA Provides Marketing Stipend to 12 Farmers’ Markets

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture has selected 12 farmers’ markets as recipients of the Meet Me at the Market stipend program. This program makes funds available to state departments of agriculture solely to enhance competitiveness of specialty crops

  • From the Land of Kansas Annual Meeting and Farmers’ Market Conference

    The From the Land of Kansas Annual Meeting and Farmers’ Market Conference will be held March 1-2, 2018, at the Bluemont Hotel in Manhattan. The conference includes the annual meeting for members, partners and farmers’ markets. It also will feature general sessions, specialized workshops and the opportunity to network with Kansas-based businesses.
  • KDA to Host Regional Emergency Response Training Workshops

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture will host seven regional emergency response training workshops this spring. Workshops will take place in Clay Center, Lawrence, Wichita, Chanute, Garden City, Colby and Manhattan.
