  • American Royal Association Announces Plans to Move to Kansas

    The American Royal Association announced Tuesday afternoon that they have reached an agreement with the State of Kansas and Unified Government to relocate to Wyandotte County, Kansas.
  • Commerce Accepting Applications for Export Programs and Funding

    Since 2012, more than 50 Kansas small businesses have achieved $17.2 million in export sales through STEP grant programs. The Kansas Department of Commerce is currently accepting STEP grant applications from small businesses to assist them in starting or growing their exports. The Commerce programs, which are being funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will help non-exporters begin exporting for the first time or existing exporters expand their export levels.
  • Kansas Department of Agriculture Receives Specialty Crop Block Grant

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture has been awarded $283,597.28 through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a program which serves to enhance opportunities for specialty crops. According to the USDA, specialty crops are defined as “fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture.” KDA has selected several recipients to further utilize the funds through specific projects.
  • Celebrate Kansas FFA by Watching the 89th National FFA Convention

    More than 65,000 FFA members, alumni and guests are gathered in Indianapolis, Ind., for the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo, which runs through October 22. Kansas FFA members join their peers from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to live out the year’s motto “Transform Purpose to Action.” Kansans are encouraged to virtually join the opening convention session beginning Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. CDT, www.ffa.org/convention.

    In addition to feeding, caring for and showing cattle, goats, pigs or sheep at the recent Kansas Junior Livestock Show, more than 120 young Kansas agricultural leaders competed at the first-ever KJLS LEAD Challenge. The competition is designed to provide a competitive learning opportunity related agricultural issues.

  • Agriculture Workforce Survey Results Complete

    A lack of a skilled agricultural workforce is a top inhibitor of growth and expansion for many Kansas agriculture businesses. To help support growth in agriculture, the Kansas Department of Agriculture seeks to help the industry better understand the workforce needs among agricultural employers in the state. In an effort to link the supply of human capital to the needs of Kansas agribusiness enterprises, KDA conducted the first Kansas Agriculture Workforce Needs Assessment Survey in 2016, assisted by the Agricultural Land Use Survey Center at Kansas State University.

    The Kansas Local Food and Farm Task Force will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24. This is a regularly scheduled meeting.
