• KDA Plans International Trade Missions for 2018

    Together, the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Kansas Department of Commerce were awarded a $380,000 State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant award for use in 2018. Since the grant’s inception in 2012, more than 50 Kansas small businesses have participated and achieved $17.2 million in actual export sales.

  • Kansas Exercises Animal Disease Response Preparedness

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture held a tabletop exercise on Tuesday, Nov. 28, as the first stage of the state’s annual emergency preparedness exercise. This year’s exercise, named Phoenix, will continue Dec. 18–20, 2017, as the agency simulates a foreign animal disease event to practice the state’s agriculture emergency response plan.

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture has received a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant to fund the Meet Me at the Market Consumer Recruitment Campaign to provide farmers’ market managers and vendors with resources to increase awareness of specialty crops available at their markets.

  • KDA to Host Egg Grading Workshop in Colby

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture will host an egg grading workshop at Colby Community College to train poultry producers in egg grading and to share other important poultry care and food safety information. The workshop is available to all Kansas egg producers at no charge.

  • Kansas Producers Participate in Trade Mission to Costa Rica

    This spring, the Kansas Department of Agriculture led a trade mission to Costa Rica to establish and strengthen relationships with Costa Rican beef producers. The KDA delegation of Billy Brown and Caitlyn Maloney was joined by Galen Fink, owner of Fink Beef Genetics in Randolph, Kansas, and project partner David Hobbs, director of activities for the American International Charolais Association.
