  • Kansas to Exercise Foreign Animal Disease Response

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture will lead an emergency preparedness exercise, Afterburn, Dec. 19–22, 2016, in Manhattan, Kan., to practice the state’s response plan to a foreign animal disease event. The four-day functional exercise, which will be based out of KDA headquarters in Manhattan, Kan., will enable KDA and its partners in other state agencies, federal and local government, industry, university and six other states to practice the state’s foreign animal disease response plan.

  • Commercial Users Advised To Make Water Needs Known

    The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is recommending feedlots, livestock owners and other large commercial water users in Labette, Montgomery and Wilson Counties advise their local emergency management office of their anticipated water needs during the current water shortage.
  • KDA Offers Cost Share for Egg Candling Unit

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture has funds available for a cost share to Kansas agricultural producers for egg candling units made possible by a U.S. Department of Agriculture Federal State Marketing Improvement Program grant. KDA will reimburse Kansas egg producers 50% of the cost of a single egg candling unit up to $100 per unit until funds are exhausted.
  • KDA Seeks Participants for Agricultural Trade Mission to Russia

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals to participate in an agricultural trade mission to AgroFarm Russia. AgroFarm is an international exhibition to be held Feb. 7–9, 2017, in Moscow, and will feature all major aspects of productive animal husbandry.

  • Beef Cattle Institute Adds Resources for Veterinary Feed Directive Changes

    With a Jan. 1, 2017, deadline looming, veterinarians and producers now have more resources available to help them comply with the Veterinary Feed Directive being issued by the Food and Drug Administration. In response to increasing demand, the Beef Cattle Institute at Kansas State University developed additional free educational modules to complement its original set of modules released earlier this year. The new modules are pertinent to separate sectors of the beef industry.

  • Commerce Accepting Applications for Export Programs and Funding

    Since 2012, more than 50 Kansas small businesses have achieved $17.2 million in export sales through STEP grant programs. The Kansas Department of Commerce is currently accepting STEP grant applications from small businesses to assist them in starting or growing their exports. The Commerce programs, which are being funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will help non-exporters begin exporting for the first time or existing exporters expand their export levels.
