  • Kansas Breeders Promote Beef Genetics Abroad

    In September 2016, a Kansas beef producer took his first steps across international borders to take part in an agricultural trade mission to Uruguay. With the goal of exploring opportunities for U.S. and Kansas beef genetics abroad, Jason Pratt of Dwight, Kan., was interested in learning more. “I wasn’t sure what to expect,” said Pratt. “You read publications, magazines and online articles, making you believe you have a picture of what international agriculture looks like, but it’s really hard to grasp until you see it in person.”
  • Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Amendments to Regulations

    A public hearing will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, to consider the adoption of proposed amendments to water regulations. The hearing will be held in the first floor meeting room 124 of the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) building, 1320 Research Park Dr., Manhattan, Kan. Individuals wishing to participate by teleconference may go to the Garden City Field Office, 2508 Johns Street, Garden City, on the date and time of the public hearing.

    The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Marketing and Promotions Advisory Board will meet in Hutchinson during the Kansas State Fair. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. and will adjourn by 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in Dillon Hall in the Encampment Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
  • Kansas Reaches Water Rights Agreement With Kickapoo Tribe

    The State of Kansas and the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas have settled a dispute over water rights, laying the groundwork to end a lawsuit that has been pending for a decade. Representatives of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, members of the Kickapoo Tribe and Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt commemorated the agreement in a ceremony this morning at the Kickapoo Tribal Government Center near Horton.

    Two public hearings will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, in the Hutchinson Kansas Department of Transportation conference room at 1220 W. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, Kan., to review the Burrton Intensive Groundwater Use Control Area (IGUCA) and the McPherson IGUCA. A public informational session will be conducted at 8:00 a.m. with a public hearing to follow at 9:00 a.m. to review the Burrton IGUCA.     A public hearing will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, in the Hutchinson Kansas Department of Transportation conference room at 1220 W. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, Kan., to review a petition that proposes to expand the boundaries of the Equus Beds Groundwater Management District No. 2 (GMD No. 2). A public informational session will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. with a public hearing to follow at 2:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held on Sept. 15, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. and will adjourn around 12:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the northeast meeting room on the second level of the Cottonwood Court building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture will host the 11th annual Kansas Grape Stomp on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m. on the Lake Talbott Stage at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, Kan.
