Students encouraged to stop by as class schedules permit
At the Governor’s Conference on Water, Governor Sam Brownback issued a call to action for a Vision that ensures Kansas water priorities are met to meet the state’s current and future needs. The Vision Team, which consists of the Kansas Water Office, Kansas Department of Agriculture and Kansas Water Authority, is coming to the K-State campus to talk with faculty, students and area stakeholders and landowners to get input for developing a Vision for Kansas water.
The Governor’s Vision Team for the Future of Water in Kansas will be holding a meeting Tuesday, April 1, 10 a.m. at the Student Union - Room 227 on the K-State campus. This opportunity is for faculty and students as well as local stakeholder groups to share their priorities with the Vision Team to ensure that Kansas continues to ensure a reliable long-term water supply for its citizens.
“The drought over the past three years has brought water issues to the forefront and Kansas must plan for the future now,” said Kansas Water Office Director Tracy Streeter. “Kansas State University has played an active role in Kansas water resource research and strategies. We want and need all Kansans to be part of Kansas’ water solution.”
Throughout the winter and spring of 2014, the Visioning Team is conducting coordinated outreach with many stakeholders throughout the state representing all uses of water. Feedback gained from these meetings will serve the basis of the draft Vision for the Future of Water in Kansas.
“The Vision Team needs K-States’ input, ideas and strategies for making sure water is available to keep Kansas’ production and economic value strong,” said Secretary of Agriculture Jackie McClaskey. “The team wants K-State and its students to be a part of the solution. We especially look forward to students providing input at this meeting as they are the future generation this Vision will affect the most!”
