Kansas Animal Health Commissioner, Dr. Bill Brown, offered congratulations to Dr. Donald Evans who has been named the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS), Veterinary Services District 5 Kansas and Nebraska Assistant District Director (ADD).
Manhattan, Kan. – Kansas Animal Health Commissioner, Dr. Bill Brown, offered congratulations to Dr. Donald Evans who has been named the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS), Veterinary Services District 5 Kansas and Nebraska Assistant District Director (ADD).
“Having the ADD for this region based in Topeka is good for Kansas animal agriculture,” said Dr. Brown. “We are looking forward to having a close working relationship with Dr. Evans and will continue to work to protect the animal agriculture industry in Kansas.”
Evans received his DVM from Kansas State University in 1977 and was involved in a private mixed animal practice in Kansas and Missouri for nine years. He worked for the Texas Animal Health Commission serving as Region 1 Director in Amarillo, Texas for three years.
Dr. Evans joined the USDA APHIS, Veterinary Services in 1989 through the Public Veterinarian Career Program in Missouri. He was assigned to Louisiana in 1990 and promoted to Area Epidemiology Officer in 1991. He concurrently pursued advanced training at Louisiana State University, receiving a master’s degree in 1993. After receiving the degree, he was transferred to Kansas as the Area Epidemiology Officer.
With brucellosis as an initial focus, Dr. Evans helped to conduct initial field safety trials in Kansas for the RB51 vaccine, leading to the provisional licensure for the vaccine.
Dr. Evans is the Kansas Designated Epidemiologist for the cooperative disease programs, is a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician and has participated in numerous emergency details through the years.
